This tool will position itself in the void previously occupied by the syndesmostoma, situated between the root cementum and the alveolar bone, functioning as a lever. Consequently, the root elevator enables the separation of all desmodontal fibers, facilitating the complete dislodgment of the tooth.
The elevator relies on the alveolar bone for support instead of neighboring teeth to prevent any potential damage. As the tooth becomes mobile, a distinctive sound known as a "sucking sound" or "singing tooth" occurs, caused by air passing between the tooth and the alveolus, signaling the completion of the elevator's action.
At this point, the only remaining step is to grasp the tooth and extract it entirely from the oral cavity.
